Delicious wines from Spanish vines
There’s wine, and then there’s Spanish wine. Known as “one of the most exciting countries in the world” to the true wine connoisseur. With the wide variety of climates that Spain experiences in each region where vines are grown, and the unique techniques used for maturation, it creates special flavours and aromas that are unlike any other.
With 70 regions full of dynamic, talented winemakers, and over 100 Spanish grape varieties, both red and white, the Spanish wine scene is going through some really exciting times, making an abundance of delicious and individual wines for us to add to the menu here at Pluma.
Vineyards stretch from the expanses of the south, to the green, rolling hills of the north, and with every region you’ll find the natural factors that affect the flavour and make each Spanish wine so special and unique. The difference in weather, the richness of the soil and water, plus the influence of the Mediterranean Sea, Cantabric Sea and Atlantic Ocean. There are so many things that play a special role in the ripening of the fruit.
Spending a warm summer night drinking wine and eating tapas with family and friends is one of the most typical and idyllic pictures of life in Spain. It’s embedded in their culture. Whilst jumping on a plane to experience it is of course an option, why not taste the experience here in Old Amersham? Our passion for Spanish wine and food means we carefully consider every small detail so you can have a truly authentic experience at Pluma. It’ll be no surprise that we take our Spanish wine selection process very seriously (and yes, it would be rude not to try before we buy) to ensure only the best reaches our guests at the table and we can give you the choice of wines from as many regions as possible.
Bring your senses to life with our top three favourites, all of which can be enjoyed while you dine with us enjoying our inspired Spanish cuisine:
Uva de Vida, Biografico Rosado 2019, Castilla-La Mancha
This beautiful Rosé comes from Castilla La Mancha, situated to the South West of Madrid in the very heart of Spain. Produced by Uva de Vida (“The Grape of Life”), est. 2012, it’s the vision of wife and husband team Carmen Lopez Delgado and Luiz Ruiz Martin. Following strict natural and biodynamic processes, both in the vines and the winery, Carmen doesn’t filter, clarify or add sulfites at any point saying “they are toxic and, for wine, they are an atomic bomb”. Through invigorating the life of the soil, the use of sonar energy and no intervention in the wine they are creating structured, elegant, fresh and pure wines.
FEATURES
Concentrated, Juicy, Redcurrant, Savoury, Strawberry, Watermelon.
TASTING NOTES
Beautiful strawberry jelly colour. Cooked wild strawberry, glacée cherry and candied watermelon. Pronounced and concentrated redcurrants but still savoury. The palate is juicy and medium bodied, with great fresh acidity, juicy red cherries, redcurrants and strawberries. Textured and clean, dark but crunchy, fresh with lovely fleshy acidity. A touch of white pepper spice comes at the end.

Fresh, firm dark red fruits, mulberry, and blackberry on the nose with perfumed purple fruit and violets. The palate starts soft with sweet raspberry, cranberry, fresh leather and evolved ripe tannins. Great energy and texture with scintillating acidity on a jammy finish.
Loli Casado, Juan de Alzate Crianza 2015, Rioja
Rioja is arguably the best known wine region the world. The winery-strong region, set across the communities of La Rioja, Navarre, and the Basque province of Álava is the spiritual home of Tempranillo. At c.140km from the North coast it benefits from a real continental climate. This classic red wine is produced by Bodegas Loli Casado, a small family owned and family run winery in Rioja Alavesa that is as traditional and nostalgic as they come.
FEATURES

TASTING NOTES
Understated, classic, generously oaked nose. Clean black cherry and forest fruits backed by more savoury, meaty notes of leather and cloves. Soft, juicy and dry palate. Touch of spice and heat, and acidity comes through. Super long. Continuously evolving.
